The War In Iraq Has A Face
Pundits speak... which is all well and good. Lawmakers talk and the media interprets. It has gone on like this for centuries. Liberals and Conservatives talk about great strategies. Folks who have no idea protest against some boogey man called Bush.
However, when your friend ships off to the Middle East, it becomes personal.
A friend of mine went to the Green Zone two years ago and spent six months worried about mortars and rockets, car bombs and suicide bombers. She came back only a little worse for the wear.
Now, another friend is deploying for an entire year. This assignment is going to be 100% more dangerous.
While I know many folks have friends and family "over there", I don't personally know any of them. Now I do - again.
