Consequences

All hail democracy!

Truthfully, as far as I can tell, democratically elected governments are the best form of autonomous rule out there. However, just because you elect your own government doesn't mean that all of the democracies out there are going to accept your decision as a good thing. There are consequences to your vote.

The Palestinian Authority is now a primarily Hamas led government now. Hamas, as an organization, doesn't even flinch when you ask them if they are a terrorist organization. The general response from (and I personally had a Hamas member/supporter tell me this) Hamas is: We will use any means to create the downfall of Israel.

The United States has a policy of not aiding and abetting terrorists. I personally feel that it is a sound stance. Why then would we deviate from that policy and continue to aid the Palestinian Authority with non-humanitarian spending?

Just because a country goes to the ballot box and votes in a government, doesn't mean that the rest of the world is just going to hug them and welcome them into the flock. If the Palestinian people don't like those consequences, well... there is another vote coming up in the future. That is the great thing about democracy!
