Simply Abhorrent
I admit it. I have lost all faith in the President of The United States of America.
I stood firmly behind him when Al Gore and his band of ecological nutballs gave him a run that came down to dangling chads. I stood behind him on September 11th, 2001 when terrorists attacked our country. I am glad that George W. Bush was sitting at the desk on September 11th. I don't believe that America could have survived with the alternative. I had faith that he would see us through and punish those responsible - hammering them back into the stone age.
I stood behind him even when the question of Weapons of Mass Destruction was dodged. I knew it was all about oil, but I still defended his actions as "being in the best interest of America." I bristled whenever I heard some liberal nutcases call him names. He was, after all, MY President.
I stood behind him when John Kerry proudly waived his three scratch purple hearts. I knew in my heart that George W. Bush was a patriot. I truly believed that the man wanted what was best for America - for me. This tough talking Texan would get the job done - for all of us.
I am deeply saddened to say that I do not believe that anymore. Patriots know that the ends do not ever justify the means. Patriots know that there are laws that must be upheld, lest we become no better than our foes.
I almost got physically ill when I watched MY PRESIDENT say that to blow the whistle on a program which was blatantly illegal and unconstitutional was "shameful". No, George it is EXACTLY the right thing to do. You were wrong.
This is a sad day for The United States of America. We (at least our executive branch) have lost sight of the fact that we ARE better than them. What makes that true is that we have laws that apply to everyone. We have freedoms that must be protected. We have a Constitution that millions have fought and died for. We are better than them precisely because we DO NOT do things like this!
This is a day that will change the course of history. This is one of our darkest. I am sad for my country and my President. You have let us down. Shame on you!

I'm afraid I don't share your strong feelings on this matter. Monitoring overseas calls to and from suspected terrorists in not the same thing as implementing a police state. The stupid thing was not going ahead and getting Congressional authorization for it, which would have been forthcoming. There was probably due to a fear of leaks among Congressional staff. Now they've got the CIA old guard leaking. Not sure I'd call those guys whistleblowers. More like turf protectors. I kind of think this is a hyped up story that doesn't amount to as much as it's being made out to. But I could be wrong...
I think that the suburban food has rotted your free-thinking liberatarian brain....
Hell, even Tucker Carlson agrees with me...
Hmm. I often eat pasta. I'll have to consider that carefully.
