Wow!

Outside of the miscellaneous drug-induced ramblings of Pat Robertson, it is rare that I find people who have the combination of being A.) Fanatically pompous, B.) Unbelievably In Love With Themselves, C.) Just Plain Stupid and finally, D.) Fans of Telling The Whole World About It.

Yet, here is a perfect example of one: Mwanza Dover. Not so suprisingly, I have never heard of him.

Let's get some quotes:

"I am not a poseur," Mwanza Dover says. "I take my shit so serious that I gave up having a normal life to pursue enlightenment through music."
"Poseur"??? Oh, okay he meant "Poser"... check.

"I hate Dallas," the longtime DFW musician says. "I do not want to be here. I don't belong here."
No, certainly you don't.

A whiner? You bet.

"I was playing in the best band I had ever played in, but nobody cared."
You are correct on that one. We (a collective 'We") had more important - and interesting - things to think about like "does our compost pile need turning" or "what are the specific probabilities of Kass' argument, as outlined in the paper dated 29 August 1996, of..." - oh well, you get the point.
Someday, I hope I am into myself as much as this guy is... until then... well...

I actually heard the guy play when I was last out with Danny and got introduced by Danny, who, of course, knows everybody in Dallas. He's less of a poseur in person, and his band is an interesting soul-rock variant kind of thing, if not exactly pushing the edge of what music can be. Much better that night (sometime in late September?) was a strange husband and wife team who seemed to be channeling Tom Waits and Diamanda Gallas simultaneously.
