In Name Only
Diane and I spent the weekend camping at Hunting Island State Park, SC. Several things came to my attention as a result:
- A park ranger named Derrick took the time to show me how to use a cast net. Polite, knowledgeable AND helpful...that is what park rangers should be!
- Shrimp don't necessarily care if I can throw a cast net correctly...they still won't jump into it.
- Blue Crabs have the most beautiful shades of blue and red on their shells.
- Blue Crabs are angry little creatures
- Blue Crabs are stupid.
- White trash are loud campers.
- What passes for "camping" (doing the same thing you would do at home, but in a state park) with some folks is a far cry from camping in my book.
- You should never bring a television set when camping. (although a nice satellite internet connection may be nice)
- People don't listen to their children.
- Calling yourself a "parent" doesn't make you a mother or a father.
- It is amazing what comes out of some adults mouths when they are talking to children.
- Birth control is not used enough. (seeing as there is not a "too stupid to breed" law)
- Diane and I were very fortunate to have the parents we have....
- The beach at Hunting Island is a wonderful place (the rednecks are all in the campground watching NASCAR, so there are few on the actual beach), we will go back often...
