A Little Green Goes A Long Way
Tonight was a farewell of sorts for me. I have to head back to Georgia for work and leave the desert behind - just as the greens are overtaking the tans out in the High Desert.
Diane and I went to The Copper Queen Bar to meet up with Dale, the owner of The Bisbee Bed and Breakfast (yes, a wildly original name!). Diane enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited, but missed, Dale. The crowd was older, and a bit tame by Bisbee standards so off we went to HotLicks up on the hill.
Liz and a few folks were enjoying corned beef and cabbage - which I must say had a bit more pepper in it than I am used to having in a month. Diane and I did get a chance to catch up on the police blotter in the paper - which is the best entertainment value in town. It turns out that someone lost some luggage on Highway 92, but the police are holding for the owner to claim. You have to love small towns!
Liz, in case you were wondering, has started smoking again - for the 101st time...maybe next time will be the one...
As Diane and I were walking to the car, we stopped into The Stock Exchange to hear a fairly decent band that was playing. There, over the endless corned beef and cabbage buffet, we found Dale. I guess corned beef is what is on the menu in every watering hole this side of the Mississippi - and the other too! Dave the post office guy, Electric Dave, Sara The Bartender and a whole host of others were making The Stock the place to be tonight.
Dale asked us if we thought that we could find entertainment like this in Georgia...which of course got us back into the self pity mode. He's right, you just don't get this kind of evening just anyplace....If one more person asks me "why don't you just quit your job and find something here?" I am going to do just that. It was a bad week for people to keep putting those thoughts into my head.
I do love this town. I am going to miss it...tremendously....
